"What is the Difference Between Tarmac and Asphalt?"
Asphalt (aka bitumen) is the black stuff which bubbles up from the ground and is just slightly purified. Tarmac (originally tarmacadam) is the road surface invented by Macadam consisting of carefully sized aggregate (rock chips) coated in asphalt (i.e. tar). So tarmac is rock chips in asphalt. But colloquially, people use asphalt to refer to the whole assemblage. So colloquially they are the same, but formally asphalt is only a component of tarmac.
